Barolo Ravera is produced with the grapes of the most important cru in Novello, a guarantee of fine aromas, sapid flavor, and great complexity. The mainly calcareous soil of this historical vineyard adds elegance and structure to the wine, making it ideal for aging. Only a few great wines possess its capacity to develop successfully over the years.

Austere and severe in its early years, Barolo Ravera loses none of its typicality with the passing of time; on the contrary, it improves. Careful selection in the vineyard and a relatively long fermentation help to heighten the characteristics of the grapes, which fully express themselves after aging in the bottle. A unique testimonial for a prestigious terroir, this wine takes the typicality of the Langhe hills to the top in terms of quality.

Tasting Notes

Brilliant garnet-red in color with orange highlights. Firm, elegant and potent on the nose, it has scents of dog-rose, mint and tobacco, scents that meld over the course of time into spice, coffee, licorice, truffle, leather and minerals. A full-bodied, rounded bouquet of great structure and balance, redolent of plum jam and withered brambles. The persistent chocolatey aftertaste is harmonious and enticing. Over the years, it gradually refines its characteristics to achieve classic elegance and composure.

Ratings & Reviews

98 Points - Luca Gardini:
"This one represents a generous interpretation of exceptional cru and lean, but also vigorous shoulder. It is sensationally full-bodied, with Nebbiolo deriving from old vineyards. Its nose is intense, mentholated and smoked, while its sapid mouth provokes several pleasurable sensations, revealing toasted dry fruit and liquorice notes. Its persistence can be considered viscose, balsamic and mostly bewitching."

96 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"New leather, balsamic herb, rose, truffle and woodland berry aromas take shape in the glass along with a whiff of charcuterie. The focused, savory palate has a great depth of flavor, doling out raspberry compote, cinnamon, crushed mint and a hint of cocoa alongside a backbone of firm tannins and fresh acidity. It still needs time to fully develop. Drink 2022–2035." Kerin O’Keefe (10/1/2019)

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Beautifully pure and seamless Barolo with superb balance. Bright strawberry and floral aromas and attractive sweet spices, leading to a palate with assertive, juicy tannins that carry rich, fresh red-plum and cherry flavor. Power with elegance. Try from 2022." (6 Jan, 2019)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar." - Monica Larner (Jun 2019)

94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"This is tightly structured and dense, with burly tannins wrapped around cherry, plum, licorice, tar and menthol flavors. It's difficult to see where this is going today, but the finish is long and will need considerable time to hit its stride. Best from 2023 through 2042. 600 cases imported." — BS (Dec 31, 2019)

93 Points - Vinous Media:
"Soaring aromatics make a strong opening statement in the 2015 Barolo Ravera. Bright, precise and finely sculpted, the Ravera captures all the best the 2015 vintage has to offer. Kirsch, sweet mint, hard candy and expressive floral notes are given an extra kick of inner sweetness from the natural energy of Ravera. There is so much to look forward to as the 2015 develops in bottle. This is a stellar showing" - Antonio Galloni (Feb 2019)
