About the Winery:

Olivier Giroux was born, and developed an early interest in wine, in southern Burgundy’s Mâconnais region.

You may be wondering why you haven’t previously heard about Pouilly-Loché, for which you can hardly be blamed. The entire appellation covers a mere 32 hectares, of which nearly 30% belongs to Clos des Rocs.

The soils are characterized by iron-rich clay and limestone, often with up to 30cm of dense limestone pebble dispersion at the surface. The resulting wines are leaner than their counterparts in neighboring Pouilly Fuisse and carry a hint of earth, yet they are quite rich in mineral, with enough fruit density to properly support the robust structural elements.

Each wine is compelling and exciting to a degree that we have made a significant commitment to the domaine, and will be importing over the coming months each of the seven cuvées produced at the domaine.

About the Wine:

Oliver’s holdings in this esteemed cru exceed 95 years of age—the oldest vines in the entire Pouilly-Loché appellation. With its iron-rich soils that mix noble clay and an abundance of limestone pebbles, En Chantone produces a wine that marries the mineral intensity of “Les Mûres” with the fruit amplitude of “Les Barres,” all with a murmuring power that speaks of the vines’ extreme age. This spends 13 months in a blend of steel and well-used 500-liter oak barrels.

94 Points - James Suckling:
"
Excellent lemon-curd, smoky and flinty depth on the nose, then very impressive drive and chalky minerality on the compact, medium- to full-bodied palate. The stony intensity at the finish reminds me of 1er Cru Chablis, but is welded to more body and warmth. Impressive power at the finish without any trace of heaviness. From organically grown grapes."

92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (for 2020 v.):
"The 2020 Pouilly-Loché En Chantone unfurls in the glass with scents of white flowers, crisp green apple, pear and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and fine-boned, it's racy and saline, with lively acids and a mouthwatering finish."
