Notes from the Winemaker:

The name of the wine, Bricco Asili, comes from a combination of the name for the Asili vineyard, and the word "bricco" which, in local dialect, means the top of a hill. The resulting wine is unfined, unfiltered, and racking is kept to a minimum so that every part of the wine's true character is allowed to come through on the palate.

Tasting Notes:
This single-vineyard Barbaresco expresses a complex, ethereal bouquet with notes of dried cherries, roses, violets, licorice, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, this wine highlights excellence in the range of Barbaresco. Though capable of exciting the taste buds after just one year in bottle, this wine's true excellence shows after 5-10 years.

Food Pairing: Pair this wine with a regional specialty like bollito misto alla Piemontese, a complex dish consisting of seven types of meat and seven different vegetables.

Ratings & Reviews

95+ Points - Antonio Galloni:
"The 2009 Barbaresco Bricco Asili is a pure joy to taste. Weightless and gracious, the 2009 wafts from the glass with the essence of freshly cut flowers, spices, red berries and crushed rose petals. The finesse of tannins elevates the Asili to a rarified air among the very best wines of the year. Seemingly endless layers of pure, textured floral fruit remain in the empty glass. This is a flat-out gorgeous wine in every way. I imagine the 2009 will enjoy a long and broad drinking window. Frankly, it is virtually impossible to resist today." - Antonio Galloni (October 2012)

93 Points - James Suckling:
"Blackberry and plums with hints of milk chocolate on the nose. Flowers too. Full body with fine tannins and a tangy finish. Walnut undertone. Bright acidity and clean fruit. Lively. Best in 2014." - (July 19th, 2012)

89-92 Points -Stephen Tanzer:
"Medium red. High-pitched aromas of spices and rose petal. Juicy and perfumed in the mouth but not yet fleshy or giving. Nicely fresh red fruits, though, and seemingly built for serious aging. The substantial, slightly drying tannins coat the front teeth."Stephen Tanzer (November 2011)

90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Cherry and licorice notes play off the dense, dusty tannins in this red. Shows fine tension between the elements, ending with a long aftertaste of sweet fruit and savory flavors. Best from 2015 through 2024. 420 cases made." – BS (Web Only - 2013)
