About the Winery:
Carlisle is a small Sonoma County winery specializing in the production of old-vine, vineyard designated Zinfandels and red Rhône varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Petite Sirah). They also produce three delicious white wines, two of which are blends from historic, old-vine vineyards plus Sonoma County's first ever Grüner Veltliner.

About the Wine:
Mancini Ranch, planted in 1922 (curiously, right after the start of Prohibition), lies kitty-corner from Papera Ranch at the corner of Piner and Olivet Roads.  Unlike Papera, this vineyard is relatively mixed in its composition with plenty of Carignan, Abouriou, Valdiguié, Alicante Bouschet, Grand Noir, and Petite Sirah.  Colombard, Muscadelle, and Palomino interplanted amongst the reds are picked separately and used for The Derivative.  As is the case with most vineyards in this area, soil is Huichica Loam with a fairly significant amount of clay below the surface.

Tasting Notes
Electric medium-dark to dark ruby-purple.  Certainly one of the darkest looking Zins we’ve ever produced.  Explosive, perfumed aromas of spiced berry compote.  There’s raspberry.  There’s boysenberry.  There’s loganberry.  Heck, think of a berry and it’s here!  On the palate, oh my!  So well balanced with so much fruit but so incredibly fresh thanks to the above average acidity this site offers.  Mancini keeps raising the bar!  Savor this stunning example of Russian River Valley Zinfandel late 2023 through 2030. Ratings & Reviews

96-98 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2021 Zinfandel Mancini Ranch is outrageously beautiful. Dark, intense and wonderfully pliant, the 2021 is endowed with tremendous substance and textural weight. Blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice build into the sumptuous finish. The 2021 is 85% Zinfandel and 15% mixed blacks. This is Carlisle and Mike Officer at their very best. The 2021 is quite simply otherworldly. Don’t miss it." – Antonio Galloni (Jan 2023)

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
“Vibrant, if slightly brooding in style, with distinctive cherry and blueberry flavors that mingle with smoked pepper and dried sage. Builds tension toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2031. 366 cases made.” – Tim Fish (Aug 2023)
