Notes from the Winemaker (2011 vintage):

Our Les Pionniers showcases the varietal character - star-bright color, delicate aromas of crushed flowers, and a palate of lemon peel, white peach, and ripe Asian pear. The 2011 effort is highlighted by its minerality and depth, while still showcasing the hallmark notes of the vineyard.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"Pale, bright silver-yellow. Aromas of melon and grapefruit complicated by musky quinine, minerals and herbal tea. Silky and rich but dry, with pineapple and grapefruit flavors accented by crushed stone. Not quite as intense or bracing as some recent vintages of this bottling but pliant, well-made and quite persistent." -Stephen Tanzer (May/Jun 14)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"This is the winery’s unoaked Sauvignon Blanc. What you get is pure fruit, although sur lie aging adds prominent notes of cream and yeasty sourdough. The fruit asserts itself in the form of pristine limes, Meyer lemons, peaches and mangoes. The acidity is vibrant and lifting, adding balance to the richness. The best Les Pionniers to date." -S.H. (11/1/2013)

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2012 Sauvignon Blanc Les Pionnieres (100% Sauvignon Blanc) was aged on its lees in stainless steel for five months. More honeyed melon and tropical fruit aromas are found in the bouquet along with a delicacy and complexity that are restrained yet intense. This medium-bodied Sauvignon possesses impressive minerality, wonderful fruit and a dry, crisp finish. It, too, should be consumed over the next 2-3 years, although I suspect these Sauvignons have the potential to last longer." - Robert Parker (Dec 2013)

Vinous Media:
"The 2011 Sauvignon Blanc Les Pionniers is all texture and grace. A rich, layered Sauvignon, the 2011 Pionniers impresses for its balance and overall harmony. Nothing is out of place in this beautifully crafted wine. Lemon zest, white flowers, chalk, and white peaches linger on the round, caressing finish." - Antonio Galloni (July 2013)

Wine Spectator:
"Smooth and juicy, with an appealing celery leaf note to the lemon, lime and green apple flavors, finishing with a touch of grapefruit skin and a pleasant bitter accent. Drink now. 233 cases made." -MW (Web Only - 2013)
