Ca Maiol is situated in the heart of the Lugana zone, in the midst of flourishing vineyards and ancient farmsteads.  The main building, constructed in 1710, is the nerve center of the estate’s activities, and alongside there is a sizeable showroom.  Perfectly integrated with the surrounding countryside, this space welcomes visitors with guided tours, tastings and a shop. In the large underground cellar one can find out everything about the company’s production, discovering its secrets and following, step by step, the slow, meticulous processes that lead from the grape to the bottle.  Here, day after day, this cycle is renewed, skillfully combining a winemaking tradition that has been acquired over the years with state-of-the-art technology, such as the stainless steel vinification tanks or the lines for bottling and disgorgement.  Innovation and renewal, and attention to the needs of the present-day consumer: these factors enable Cà Maiol to produce wine of extremely high quality and unique character.

About the Wine:

Our Lugana Maiolo is made from Trebbiano di Lugana grapes and takes its name from the Cascina Maiolo farm, founded in 1710.  The grapes for this wine come from moderately young vines, trained using the Silvoz and Guyot systems and with an average annual yield of around 20,000 pounds of grapes per hectare.  The limestone-based soil with layers of clay, dating from the post-glacial era, together with manual picking, soft pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation, give this Lugana distinctive characteristics, such as its straw-like color with greenish highlights, its delicate scent and its tangy flavor.

Grape Varietal:  Trebbiano di Lugana

Nose:  Delicate, dry and fresh, with tones of white almond and apple.

Alcohol by Volume:  12.5%

Food Pairings:  Shellfish/seafood dishes, pasta or risotto & fresh vegetable salads.

Wine Enthusiast:                                                                                                              The winds coming off picturesque Lake Garda, in the north of Italy, play an important role in keeping grapes cool and allowing bright acidity to develop in Cà Maiol’s Trebbiano.  Soils layered with limestone and clay—a signature of the region—contribute to the nuanced aromas and flavors in the wine.  Floral notes bloom in the glass, along with the essence of apricot and a hint of almond.  Elegant and light-bodied, this delicate wine calls for raw fish, such as a crudo or tuna tartare.
