Winemaking:
Brunello Poggio Doria is the wine of sunset, the wine from the West. Poggio Doria's vineyard is located in the North-West side of Montalcino with South/West/North-West exposure. The vineyard is approximately 260 meters above sea level and composed of jasper, sand and clay. Vines are planted using training system of spurred cordon with 5,200 plants per hectare. Harvest is conducted manuallly into cases in the second week of October. The juice is fermented for at least 26 days at a controlled temperature of minus 30 degrees celcius. After maceration the wine is matured for 18 months in new and used French oak TONNEAU (Allier); followed by 12 months in large oak barrels from Slavonia. Finally the wine is bottle aged for at least 36 months.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigneto Poggio Doria offers a super-appealing combination of bold fruit intermingled with subtler elements that give the wine much of its classiness. Bright red cherry, chalk, white flowers and smoke are some of the many notes that add nuance throughout. Hints of slight overripeness appear on the finish, but they aren't entirely out of character for the house style. This is an especially forward Riserva, and, although, another year or two in bottle will help the tannins soften further, the 2010 is quite expressive today." - Antonio Galloni (February 2016)

94 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Cherry, currant and strawberry flavors are framed by tobacco, iron, underbrush and tea in this beefy, intense red. All the components are there. If you like Brunello on the firm side, this is for you. Best from 2018 through 2033. 830 cases made." - BS (Jun 30, 2016)

94 Points - Wine Enthusias:
"Aromas of menthol, star anise, clove and mature berry unfold in the glass. The firmly structured palate offers mature black cherry, star anise, espresso and a touch of exotic spice framed in taut, fine-grained tannins that lend elegance. Drink 2020–2035." - Kerin O’Keefe (5/1/2016)

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigneto Poggio Doria shows tight contours and pretty delineation. There is a point of softness and extra fleshiness that underlines the fruit's ripeness. Back cherry, pressed raspberry and blackberry preserves play prominent roles. Nuanced tones of smoke, balsam herb and crushed mineral appear at the back and add more complexity. In the mouth, however, the wine is more stripped down and sports a mid-weight style. This Riserva ends on an elegant note." - Monica Larner (Mar 2016)
