Notes from the Winemaker:
In Zen Buddhism of Japan, a Kōan is a story, question, or statement used in meditation for novices. A Kōan is intended to provoke reflection on the inadequacy of logical reasoning, leading one to abandon ultimate dependence on reason and gain intuitive enlightenment. The continuous pondering of the first, or break-through Kōan leads to an initial insight, called Kensho. After that initial insight, students continue their practice investigating subsequent Kōans.

With our first release we recognize we are the newest of students in the practice of winemaking. We claim no mastery, only the abandonment of pure reason and a desire for enlightenment. Whether you have insight while enjoying our wine is up to you.

Owners Jordan Reiss and Naomi Nagayama live in Sausalito. They seek out vineyards of character and standing to put together a wine that expresses their current understanding of Napa Valley.
