Notes From The Winemaker (2009 Vintage):

76% cabernet sauvignon & 24% syrah

Tasting Notes:
Rich, ripe fruit and classic high-tone Washington floral notes rise from the glass generously. While this wine is reminiscent of the exceptional 2007 vintage, with its big bold character, what’s different here is the dominance of cabernet and how it shapes the wine. Elements of beetroot and chocolate, as well as dark er tones shift the 2009 vintage into familiar cabernet territory. Yet the syrah keeps it brighter than any cabernet can be. The wine smells ripe and inviting, and while the oak presence shows its reserve quality, the oak is a complement, perfectly supporting the compelling fruit and flower perfume. A generous attack is followed by a mid-palate filled with power, fruit and fine grained tannins, all supported by abundant acidity, which keeps the palate clean and leads to a persistent fruit and flower finish. This young wine promises a long future.

Ratings & Reviews

92 Points - Stephen Tanzer:
"Bright dark red. Aromatically pure, nuanced nose combines purple fruits, flowers, cocoa powder and a meaty nuance. Suave, seamless and intense, offering lovely ripeness as well as superb energy to the high-pitched flavors of red fruits, spices and flowers. Finishes tactile and chocolatey, with refined tannins and excellent length. Boasts lovely balance for a graceful evolution in bottle." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov 2015)

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine (2009 Vintage):
"Supple and sturdy, this beautifully structured blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Syrah, which uses fruit sourced from the estate vineyard, utilizes the best assets of both grapes. The Cabernet gives it both firmness and depth, while the Syrah pipes in vivid, juicy, berry flavors. Still young and primary, the best is clearly yet to come." — P.G. (2/1/2013)

91 Points -
Wine Spectator Magazine (2009 Vintage):
"Rich and round, with focused, smoky, tangy blackberry and tamarind flavors that sluice through refined tannins on the fine-grained finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2017. 490 cases made." –HS (Oct 15, 2013)

91 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellers
(2009 Vintage):
"(76% cabernet sauvignon and 24% syrah): Medium ruby. Aromas of black raspberry, coffee and mocha. Densely packed but juicy and light on its feet, with noteworthy lift to the lush, sweet cassis and licorice flavors. Not quite as juicy as the Champoux Vineyard bottling--in fact there's a suggestion of almost roasted fruit here--but the syrah component brings a rising finish and serious, palate-coating tannins." - Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec 2012)
