Notes from the Winemaker:
Intense notes of blackberry fruit blended with oaky touches and delicately spiced. Full and fleshy on the palate, the structure of this wine is based on elegant tannins. Very good ageing potential.
Ratings & Reviews
91-93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"Here too there is plenty of wood framing the pure and airy black cherry, plum and violet-scented nose. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the vibrant, delicious and focused middle weight flavors that exude a fine minerality before culminating in a balanced, persistent and beautifully complex if mildly austere finish. Like the Gevrey this is not super dense but it does offer a highly attractive combination of punch and finesse that also has the underlying structure to amply reward a decade plus of cellaring. Sweet spot Outstanding."Β - Apr 15, 2016
90-93 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar:
"(Bouchard owns one hectare in this premier cru; this and the Porrets Saint-Georges were aged in 40% new oak but all of these wines were racked out of new oak in August): Bright, dark red. Ripe aromas of currant, chocolatey oak, clove and graphite. Sweet and velvety on entry, then rather penetrating in the middle, with the strong acidity in need of more time to integrate. Not a fat or opulent style but displays excellent energy, cut and lift. Finishes with firm tannic spine and a vibrant stony character." - ST (Jan 2016)
93 Points - Wine Spectator (2013 Vintage):
"A pretty red, with effusive aromas and flavors of violet, black currant, black cherry, stone and spice. Shows harmony and elegance, with a serious structure underneath. The finish is long, echoing dark fruit, mineral and spice details. Best from 2018 through 2032. 100 cases imported." - BS (Jul 2016)
92 Points - Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (2013 Vintage):
"Bright, dark red. Sexy high-toned aromas of candied red fruits, spices and flowers. Plush and sweet in the mouth, conveying a pliant texture and excellent intensity to its red fruit and floral flavors. Well-judged oak contributes complexity without dominating the wine. Spreads out horizontally on the finish, with pungent minerality extending the fruit." - ST (Mar 2016)
92 Points - James Suckling (2013 Vintage):
"This is tight and silky with pretty structure, polished tannins and a long and intense finish. Dried strawberry and citrus too. Better in 2016." - (Jun 16th, 2015)
