About the Winery:
Bodegas Muga is Rioja Alta’s premier producer and the Muga family are unanimously considered to be one of Spain’s most important winemaking families. The winery has practically legendary status due to its philosophy revolving around adherence to tradition, dynamism, and winemaking of the highest quality. Few producers in the world fashion wines that have such a sense of tradition and place as Muga’s. The wines of Muga have an absolutely distinct, unique, and inimitable profile.

Tasting Notes:
A beautiful pale pink Provençal colour. A very pretty nose of flowers, especially rose petals, and almonds. Fruit aromas come through well too, red berry fruits, wild strawberries together with some creamy vanilla notes.

On the palate, there’s a soft full attack, quite succulent followed by lovely acidity that balances out the first impressions of sweetness. The wine then develops beautifully with a tangy, refreshing finish. A nicely balanced rosé with surprising complexity.

Food Pairing:
Ideal with seafood, pasta, rice dishes and salads.

Technical Information

Grapes: Garnacha and Viura.
Soil: Mainly calcareous clay and ferrous clay soils from the upper Najerilla district.

Hand-harvested. After a period of 5 hours gentle maceration in the press, the must ferments at a temperature controlled at around 16-18ºc for 15-20 days. This enables us to preserve to the maximum the aromatic complexity and intensity of the grapes from which the wine is made. Once fermentation is complete, it remains with its fine lees in suspension for 12 weeks in order to heighten the smooth mouth-feel. Before bottling it undergoes cold stabilisation.

"The 2019 Rosado was produced mainly with grapes from the Alto Najerilla zone of Rioja, where the soils have a mix of clay, limestone and iron that give them an intense red color. The must fermented in small oak vats for 15 to 20 days at 16 to 18 degrees Celsius and was kept with lees that were worked for three months before bottling. It has a similar profile as the white, slightly reductive at first and then opening up after some time in the glass. It's tender and sleek, with integrated acidity and clean flavors with a pleasant bitter twist in the finish. It's a blend of Garnacha and Viura plus whatever grapes might be in the old vineyards in the Najerilla zone. This is a cuvée of 300,000 bottles." - Luis Gutierrez (Oct 2020)

"This estate always turns out a classy rosé and the 2019 Rosado is no exception. Based largely on Grenache with 30% Viura and 10% Tempranillo, its light pink color is followed by attractive notes of wild strawberries, white peach, and flowers. It's medium-bodied, seamless, and beautifully balanced, and has a good mix of both richness and freshness. Enjoy this outstanding rosé over the coming 6-12 months." (Oct 2020)
