Winemaker Notes:

Coming from the best grapes from the oldest Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo vineyards of the property. This Gran Reserva is aged for 28 months in French oak barrels and is one of the best wines from Bodegas Beronia. With a strong personality that is expressed in its body, elegance and fescura,it is recommended to enjoy it together with red meats, cured cheeses and desserts with chocolate.

Vineyards located in the town of Ollauri (Rioja Alta). The average age of the Beronia vineyard is 30 years, with pre-phylloxeric and other (the youngest) vineyards planted during the spring of 2011.

Ageing: Aged for 28 months in French oak barrels and then completed its aging for a minimum of 36 months in the bottle before going on the market.

Varietal Composition: 93% Tempranillo, 4% Graciano, 3% Mazuelo

Tasting Notes:

Color: Intense garnet color of very high layer.
Nose: It provides a lot of sensations, from ripe fruit in compote to prunes and nuts such as walnuts. Subtle notes of tobacco and cocoa powder also emerge as well as white pepper and balsamic sensations that give it freshness.
Palate: Fresh fruit, such as blueberries, has a great role. It offers a pleasant tannin as well as a remarkable structure and softness, which leads it to be a very balanced wine.

Ratings & Reviews:

93 Points - James Suckling
"Plenty of berries with sweet oak, walnuts with some dried flowers. Medium-to full-bodied, fruity and chocolatey. Coffee, too. Tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo. Drink now." (Sep 2021)

92 Points, #36 Top 100 Of 2021 - Wine Spectator:
“Velvety tannins give way to dark cherry, mocha and loamy earth notes enhanced with black tea, anise and graphite accents. Broad but keeps focused with solid, integrated acidity. Drink now through 2029. 5100 cases made, 2500 cases imported.” - GS

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast
"Aromas of vanilla, licorice and ripe berry fruits introduce this warm-year gran reserva. The palate is full on first take, then popping acidity pushes the flavors towards currant, tomato and red plum. The acidity drives a dry finish with plenty of oak spice. Give this lots of air and time if drinking now but it's good through 2032." - MS (12/1/2021)
