About the Winery:
Castello Banfi is a family-owned vineyard estate and winery in the Brunello region of Tuscany. It was founded in 1978 thanks to the will of the Italian-American brothers, John and Harry Mariani. From the beginning, the goal of the two brothers was to create a state-of-the-art winery combined with the most advanced science in the vineyards for the production of premium wines. Together with the Mariani family, Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's foremost enologists, who understood that due to the richness of the soils and the privileged microclimatic position, the property would have great capacity of development.

Tasting Notes:
In the glass a mauve red, intense and very deep. The nose is complex, but immediately captivating, fresh and sweet, with essences of plum, cherry, blackberry and raspberry jam combined with hints of chocolate, cigar box, vanilla and licorice. Muscular and toned, there is a surprising combination of power and softness, with sweet and gentle tannins.

Food Pairing:
This wine is particularly suited to accompany red meat, savory game and aged cheeses. Long aging potential.

Ratings & Reviews

96 Points - James Suckling:
"Intense aromas of blackberry and black truffle follow through to a full body, firm and silky tannins and a gorgeous finish. Plenty of dried cherry to close. A pretty and focused red that needs two or three years to soften." (Nov 2017)

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Castello Banfi has done a great job in a classic vintage. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Poggio alle Mura is an impressive effort with high-quality fruit that rises to the top. The bouquet offers polished lines and linear tones of black cherry, dried blackberry, spice, tobacco and grilled herb. In appearance, the wine is saturated and rich. The finish offers a bright pop of acidity that will serve the wine well as it faces its future evolution.." - Monica Larner (Feb 2018)

90 Points - Vinous Media:
"Deep red. Violet, sour red cherry and flint on the lively nose. Then flavors of savory herbs, ripe red cherry and underbrush are nicely lifted and extended on the long finish by bright, harmonious acidity. Lovely Brunello that, unlike many other past vintages of Poggio alle Mura Brunellos marked by dark fruit aromas and flavors, echoes with fresh red fruit reminders. For my money, there is simply no comparison between this beauty and some of the inky, very savory, herbal Poggio alle Mura wines of the past. This is a smashingly good Brunello." - Ian D'Agata (Apr 2018)
