About the Winery:
Denner Vineyards is an estate on the far western border of the Paso Robles AVA. Founded by Ron Denner in 1999 after an exhaustive search throughout California. The 156-acre parcel presses up against the Santa Lucia Range, giving the site great diversity of elevation, aspect and soil. The estate is nestled into the Templeton Gap. Denner Vineyards currently uses 45 of the total 108 acres for their estate wine program. The remaining grapes are sold to ultra-premium producers in Paso Robles. Much of their fruit graces the wines of Villa Creek Cellars, Linne Calodo, and Justin Vineyards among others. Denner’s winemaking program is headed by Anthony Yount, a graduate of California Polytechnical University. He is amazingly talented and we are big fans of his wines.

About the Wine:
Highly perfumed and brightly pitched, the 2018 Ditch Digger serves up black raspberry, potpourri, tamarind and chaparral aromas. The palate is packed with flavors of boysenberry, smoked paprika, nutmeg and cardamom. The impressively long finish is framed by supple and slow building tannins. Open this up a few hours before enjoying.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The Grenache-based 2018 Ditch Digger is blended with 20% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah and 5% splashes of Cinsault, Counoise and Graciano. The nose is deep and nuanced, with red and black fruits accented by notes of white pepper, exotic spice, tea leaves and blood orange. It offers impressive depth of fruit on the palate, which is medium-bodied, finely grained and juicy, and it finishes with tremendous spice. It deserves another 2-3 years in the cellar." (2/2021)

95 Points - Vinous Media:
"A highly perfumed bouquet evokes ripe red/blue fruits, incense and potpourri, and a spicy top-note builds as the wine opens up. Alluringly sweet and deeply concentrated, offering intense boysenberry, cherry, lavender pastille and spice-cake flavors that become livelier as the wine stretches out. Displays fine delineation and bold, spicy thrust on an impressively long, sweet finish framed by supple, slow-building tannins."  (12/2020)

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Deep aromas of cassis, violet and French toast spices are rich and inviting on the nose of this blend of 45% Grenache, 20% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah, 5% Cinsault, 5% Counoise and 5% Graciano. Soft, polished tannins make for a suave and silky sip, where dark berry and cardamom flavors converge." (11/2020)

93 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A quietly dynamic red that shelters a vibrant and structured core beneath expressive notes of blackberry, crushed stone and blood orange. Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Cinsaut, Counoise and Graciano." - (3/2021)
